Function Movement
Screenings (FMS)
The FMS is an American developed system that was initially developed for screening athletes for injuries and irregular movements that can cause injuries. Over the last 15 years, coaches in the USA and Canada have used the FMS for players in the NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball and NBA and it has only recently been introduced to Australia. It is a ranking and grading system that monitors movement patterns that are essential to normal function.
It has now been applied to the occupational landscape with the same aim of screening workers to identify physical weaknesses of the body that may lead to injuries. The FMS can be used as a pre-employment screening tool or as an assessment to address current workers physical weaknesses and then reduce the risk of injuries by addressing these weaknesses.
